An Insight View of Evolution of Advanced Aluminum Alloy for Aerospace and Automotive Industry: Current Status and Future Prospects

The aerospace and automotive industry is in dire need of lightweight components. Aluminum (Al) alloys have long been considered the best material for aircraft as well as automotive structural elements. Al alloys are lighter overall and provide improved fuel economy and load capacity when used in airplane as well as automotive construction because they have a lower density than other metals. Concurrently, alloying and heat-treating Al alloys can greatly increase their strength and hardness for applications involving high loads and vibration. Additionally, a variety of environmental conditions and chemical reactions may be experienced by aircraft in the hostile aerospace as well as automotive environment. Al alloys perform very well in these circumstances because of their strong resistance to fatigue and corrosion, extending the service life of automobiles and aircraft. Al alloys may also be recycled to lessen their environmental impact and resource consumption, which is consistent with the sustainable development approach. Even though composites have been utilized extensively in aircraft recently, high-strength Al alloys remain essential. Thus, this article examines the development and uses of Al alloys that are frequently employed in aircraft. These can serve as a guide for future developments of high-performance, cutting-edge aircraft Al alloys.
