A Comparative Study on Various Natural Plant Fiber Composites

As social influence regarding the reduction of carbon footprint and the use of eco-friendly materials in every sector becomes a priority, the introduction of natural fiber composite can bring a revolution. On the other hand, these materials are lighter and stronger which makes them suitable for the medical, automobile, and aerospace sectors. In the present study, authors procured the different types of natural fiber such as palm leaf, date leaf, coconut leaf, coconut husk, bridge ground (Jhinga) leaf, and jute fiber to make natural fiber reinforced composite. The results show that the structural rearrangement of the natural fibers helps to gain higher load-bearing capacity. It has also been found that the Bridge ground (Jhinga) fiber composite has the highest load-bearing capacity of 31.2 kg. The composite made using bridge ground fiber has the maximum hardness at 64 HRB, whereas the composite made using coconut leaf has the minimum hardness as 51 HRB. On the other hand, composite made using coconut husk has the highest water absorption ability and flexural rigidity as 24.5 X 106 N-mm2. The bridge ground fiber composite shows the highest impact strength as 0.23 J/mm2.
