Electrochemical Corrosion Analysis of HA-Based Coating Deposited Using LVOF Technique on Austenitic Stainless Steel Surgical Grade

摘要

A key element of biomedical grades used in human body is the biocompatibility of the materials used inside a body as artificial organs. A biomaterial surface should resist corrosion in the body fluids. Implant coatings are widely used for the deposition of biomaterials with thermal spray coatings due to its durability and biocompatibility. This research paper examines the electro-corrosion of uncoated medical grade 254 SS and Low velocity oxy-fuel (LVOF) deposited Hydroxyapatite (HA) powder on 254 SS substrate. The 6.3% porosity level was found in the LVOF-deposited Hydroxyapatite (HA) coating. The coating was characterized using a Scanning electron microscopy to understand the microstructural features and corroded surfaces. The coated material outperforms the surgical stainless-steel grade in the current investigation in terms of electro-corrosion resistance.
