Analysis of Corrosion Polarization Behaviour in GNP/TiB2 Reinforced Hybrid Al–Mg-Si-MMNCs for Marine Environments

Aluminum-metal-matrix-composites (AMMCs) have become a wise option for addressing corrosion-related issues in recent years. Researchers set out to investigate the intriguing field of AMMCs, focusing on their production procedures, design concepts, and above all how well they functioned under corrosive conditions, particularly in the marine industry. The current work examines the corrosion polarization properties of Hybrid Metal Matrix Nano Composites based on Al–Mg-Si, by employing the Tafel extrapolation technique. Through the integration of GNP (0.5wt%) and TiB2 (2.5-10wt%) reinforcements into the matrix, the composites were made by employing an innovative ultrasonic stir-casting method. The corrosion rate (CR) of the composites in a 3.5% natural NaCl concentration was assessed with an electrochemical corrosion analyzer. SEM interpretation of the casts reports a uniform dispersion of the reinforcements throughout the matrix. Tafel analysis demonstrated that compared to pure Aluminium(3.63E−05 A/cm2, 2187Ω), composites containing graphene and TiB2 exhibit enhanced polarization resistances (2.01E−05 A/cm2, 3823Ω) and reduced corrosion current densities consequently, these composites offer outstanding corrosion resistance, making them suitable for structural applications in the aerospace and maritime sectors.
