Impact of Silicon Carbide Particle on the Behavior of Coir Fiber-Incorporated Polypropylene Hybrid Composite

Chemical surface-treated natural fiber-fabricated composites are gaining excellence in many engineering domains, have low specific weights, and have increased specific behavior. However, natural fiber showed marginal improvement in hardness and wear behavior. The novel investigation is to fabricate the polypropylene hybrid nanocomposites by using 20 wt% of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) processed coir fiber in the form chopped, and this is blended with 0, 3, 6, and 9 wt% of silicon carbide nanoparticle (SiC) via injection technique. The impact of SiC appearances in polypropylene hybrid nanocomposite's tensile strength, microhardness, and wear behavior is studied, and its evaluated results are compared. Polypropylene hybrid nanocomposite fabricated by 20 wt% coir fiber with 9 wt% SiC is exposed in 59 ± 0.3 MPa of its tensile strength, and hardness is attained by 73 ± 0.5 HV. The wear rate is 0.31 mg/m on an applied load 20 N with a 1 m/sec sliding speed.
