摘要

The present work deals with fabrication and analysis of metal matrix composition of aluminium (Al 6061). The reinforcement was provided by two different kinds of micro-particles i.e., alumina (Al2O3) and silicon carbide (SiC). These two different kinds of fabricated products were compared with the standard (without reinforced) metal piece. The mechanical properties were analysed on the basis of tensile strength, hardness, and toughness. Energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) analysis was carried out to analyse the micro-level of observation. The microstructure of the aluminium cast matrix was found homogenous and defect-free. The added abrasive particles led to an increase in the overall hardness of the fabricated composites. The toughness of both the reinforced products were found smaller than the standard sample. A reduction in the ultimate tensile strength of the reinforced products were recorded after the test due to probably improper stirring during casting.
