Preparation of High-Density Polypropylene Composite Featured with Natural Neem Fiber Through Injection Mould Route

  • R. Venkatesh

摘要

The polymer composite has better strength and enhanced mechanical behavior, which is why these composites are used in various applications. The present investigation aims to prepare the high-density polypropylene (HDPE) composite with 8% sodium hydroxide (NaOH)-treated neem fiber through the injection moulding route. The final HDPE composite consists of 0, 5, 10, and 15 wt% of NaOH-treated neem fiber. The impact of NaOH-treated neem fiber on tensile strength, moisture absorption, and hardness of composite is investigated by ASTM standards. The composite consists of 15 wt% NaOH-treated neem fiber, which proved its excellence with improved tensile strength, moisture absorption resistance, and marginal improvement in the hardness of the composite. The value of tensile strength, moisture absorption, and hardness of 15 wt% NaOH-treated neem fiber HDPE composite is 49 ± 0.5 MPa, 26 ± 1%, and 59 ± 0.7 HV. This composite is recommended for lightweight sports equipment applications.
