摘要

In this study, the microstructure and tensile characteristics of the heat-treated welded joint between Inconel 718 (IN) and AISI 304 (SS) have been examined. The joint has been made by MIG welding with mild steel filler wire. An “optical microscope (OM)” and a “field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM)” were used to investigate the microstructure. Three welded joints were created: SS-SS, SS-IN, and IN-IN. The strength of the joints was checked by UTM machine on standard shaped tensile specimens. The properties of the three-heat treated welded joints were compared to those of ‘as welded’ plates. The properties of ‘as welded’ plates were discussed in the previous work. The γ phase was noticed with certain grain boundaries in the welded zone of all three joints. The emergence of δ-ferrite was dendritic and cellular in orientation. The primary buildup of ferrite in the HAZ is substantial.
