<p>This study models the reliability and failure rates of two groups of heavy-duty diesel engines (HDDE) with identical capacities, used in Excavators. Using Relia-soft Weibull + + software, reliability and failure rate trends for each engine group are compared through individual graphs. Various probability distribution models are applied to determine which group shows better reliability within a given time frame. The analysis uses time-to-failure (TTF) data from workshop maintenance logs to identify failure patterns and develop an optimized maintenance strategy. Results show that Type-II engines have higher reliability up to 14,000&#xa0;h, while Type-I engines perform better beyond this threshold. The study also compares repair rates and maintainability, revealing variations over time and between engine types, aiding in improving workshop efficiency and equipment availability.</p>
