Synthesis, Optimisation and Characterisation of Nano Carbon Powder Reinforced Aluminium Composites
摘要
Nano Carbon particle reinforced Aluminium composites are advanced materials that combine Aluminium matrix with nanoscale Carbon particles to enhance their mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties. The key characteristics of nano Carbon particle reinforced Aluminium composites are enhanced strength, stiffness, hardness, wear resistance, lightweight, thermal conductivity and corrosion resistance. This research work outlines, the synthesis, optimisation and characterisation of nano Carbon powder reinforced aluminum composites. The accumulation of distinct nano scale Carbon particles is termed as nano Carbon powder (NCP) was synthesized by chemical vapour deposition (CVD) technique. Subsequently, nano Carbon powder (NCP) was dispersed into Aluminium matrix with distinct ratio neat, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 25% by weight percentage to produce NCP reinforced Aluminium composite laminates using a melt-mix casting method. An experimental characterization demonstrated that 10% nano Carbon powder reinforced Aluminium composite has optimum tensile strength (410 MPa) with thermal conductivity (320 W/mK) while the 15% nano Carbon powder reinforced Aluminium composites has moderate tensile strength (380 MPa) and the 20% nano Carbon powder reinforced Aluminium composites has tensile strength of 325 MPa. Furthermore, fractographic surface analysis was also investigated to explore the reasons behind the variations in the mechanical strength, hardness and thermal conductivity among nano Carbon powder reinforced Aluminium composite with distinct ratio of NCP by weight percentage. Consequently, 10%, 15% and 20% nano Carbon powder reinforced Aluminium composites can be utilised for various engineering applications as light weight composite with optimum mechanical properties.
