New Technique for Evaluating Concrete Strength through Non-Destructive Testing
摘要
Non Destructive testing (NDT) of concrete is one of the important methods to assess the strength of concrete without causing any damage to the concrete structure. Schmidt Rebound hammer is used to calculate concrete surface hardness which is a widely used non-destructive testing (NDT) method to predict strength of concrete with the statistical correlation between strength of concrete and rebound index reading. Decades of practice and research in assessing strength, using Schmidt Rebound hammer for an assessment of concrete strength remains a controversial issue, as the test results are inconsistent when the universal correlation model is considered as base. The new Non Destructive testing kit is a pendulum based prototype designed to assess the concrete strength gain evaluation based on the principle of coefficient of restitution. The prototype tested on different types of materials used in the construction sector. In addition, columns in the under construction site are tested using a new nondestructive testing kit and rebound hammer too. Concrete cubes casted on site were tested with a compression testing machine. In this study, it has been concluded that, for different materials, the different Rebound angles are recorded. For concrete structural elements, the rebound angle is found to increase proportionally the curing period from day 3–28 days. This indicates that the rebound angle can capture the strength gain of concrete. These findings suggest that the new nondestructive testing kit demonstrates accuracy, stronger correlation, and lower error, making it a more reliable tool for estimating compressive strength.
