摘要

In the present study, the antioxidant and antimicrobial potential of essential oils of fruits of Rubus ellipticus (raspberry) and Rubus fruticosus (blackberry) were studied. The antioxidant activity of R. ellipticus essential oil was significantly higher than R. fruticosus. All tested microorganisms were found to be significantly (< 0.05) susceptible to essential oils except Rhizopus spp, Absidia blakesleeana and Mucor spp. The zone of inhibition shown by R. ellipticus and R. fruticosus essential oils against Rhizomucor pusillus was 7 ± 2 mm and 6 ± 1 mm, respectively, whereas 1 ± 1 mm and 0.5 ± 1 mm against E. aurantiacum and 0.5 ± 1 mm and 0.53 ± 1 mm against Staphylococcus equorum, respectively. GC–MS analysis revealed the presence of various bioactive compounds in the essential oils of R. ellipticus and R. fruticosus. Thus, it was concluded that essential oils of R. ellipticus and R. fruticosus are an important source of phytochemicals having antimicrobial and antioxidant activities.
