<p>The Polyplacophora, commonly known as chitons, represent an understudied group of mollusks along the Gujarat coast in the Arabian Sea. This study aimed to assess the diversity of Polyplacophora in this region, which has been largely overlooked in previous research. The present study is the first comprehensive report on intertidal chitons from the rocky shores of Gujarat. A total of Eight rocky shores were surveyed for chitons diversity and four intertidal chitons, <i>Rhyssoplax peregrina</i>, <i>Ischnochiton bouryi</i>, <i>Ischnochiton winckworthi</i> and <i>Acanthochitona mahensis</i> were observed from the studied intertidal shores. Our findings revealed new distributional records of <i>I. winckworthi</i> from the west coast of India and <i>A. mahensis</i> from Gujarat. In the present communication, we discussed their vertical distribution pattern, choice of microhabitats, distribution within microhabitats and spatial occurrence within Gujarat. During the study period, color variants were observed among species of the genus <i>Ischnochiton.</i> The study appended the marine biodiversity of Gujarat and shows the importance of the species-specific biodiversity assessment, highlights major research gaps and suggests diversity of these animals from the Gujarat coastline could be more than the currently available information as this region is relatively unexplored from this perspective.</p>
