Comparative Study on Nutritional Contents of Rose Hip Herbal Tea and Dried Rose Hips Commonly Consumed in Bukhara, Uzbekistan
摘要
In Uzbekistan, rosehip herbal tea is widely consumed by people for its health benefits as it is rich in vitamin C content and other nutrients. This study evaluates nutritional contents in commercially available rosehip herbal tea Munis Choy (MC) and locally available dried rose hips (LR) sold in local markets of Bukhara for the preparation of herbal tea. Proximate analysis along with the detection of polyphenols, flavonoids and vitamin C was carried out to analyze the difference between the two samples to highlight their role as possible antioxidants as these are mainly responsible for antioxidant potential of the species. In our study, the sample of Munis Choy herbal tea contains protein 1.51(%w/w), fat 1.52(%w/w), total ash 1.10(%w/w), moisture 68.88, carbohydrate per 100 g as 80.0 and energy 160 kcal per 100 g. The dried rosehip powder contains protein 0.20(%w/w), fat 4.24(%w/w), total ash 3.61(%w/w), moisture 70.32, carbohydrate per 100 g as 84.63 and energy 377.48 kcal per 100 g. The total phenolic content and total flavonoids in MC and LR samples were 3.57, 4.00% w/w and 0.029, 0.032% w/w, respectively. The vitamin C content in both the tea samples was found below the limit of detection (10 µg/g), respectively. A slight variation in the nutrients and parameters of both the samples was found in the study. Overall, the study elucidates the nutritional potential of Munis Choy and dried rose hip although the botanical identification of the Rosa species is the need of hour to correlate and analyze the potential mechanism of their health-promoting activities.
