<p>Sepsis is a life-threatening condition caused by microbial infections inside the host body and presently has fewer effective therapeutic options for its treatment. When remained untreated it results in septic shock. Sepsis involves a systemic activation of immune response inside the host body that causes excessive production of cytokines causing organ dysfunction and ultimately patient’s death due to septic shock. Therefore, for treating sepsis and preventing septic shock the cytokine production must be inhibited. IRAK-4, a serine-threonine kinase is the key mediator involved in this cytokine production. The NF-kB transcription factor is activated as a result of the IRAK-4 enzyme's involvement in the pathway, which also leads to the overproduction of cytokines<i>. The further production, and function of cytokines, as well as sepsis, are all impacted by this cytokine signaling and overproduction. Thus, on inhibiting IRAK-4, production of the pro-inflammatory cytokines, which occurs through the activation of NF-kB can be inhibited and subsequently the septic shock.</i></p>
