<p>This study critically examines historical reports of <i>Phyllostachys bambusoides</i>, highlighting controversies in its identity and distribution in India. At present, five <i>Phyllostachys</i> species, viz. <i>P. mannii</i>,<i> P. nigra</i>,<i> P. aurea</i>,<i> P. glauca</i>,<i> P. edulis</i>, and a variety <i>P. nigra</i> var. <i>henonis</i> distributed in India, without concrete evidence on occurrence of <i>P. bambusoides</i>. Further, the scrutiny of literature and herbarium specimens revealed that <i>P. mannii</i> from Arunachal Pradesh, and <i>P. nigra</i> var. <i>henonis</i> from Sikkim, West Bengal and Himachal Pradesh, were erroneously identified as <i>P. bambusoides</i>. Thus, the identity and occurrence of <i>P. bambusoides</i> in India remain uncertain and require further confirmation.</p>

摘要
