Growth Performance and Renal Health Impacts of Vegetarian, Non-Vegetarian, and Commercial Diets in Beagle Dogs
摘要
The present study was conducted to evaluate the impact of vegetarian and non-vegetarian diets on growth performance and renal health in Beagle dogs over a 150-day experimental period. Twelve adult Beagle dogs were randomly assigned to three groups (n = 4 per group) based on body weight using a completely randomized design. Group 1 received a vegetarian diet, Group 2 a non-vegetarian diet, and Group 3 a commercial dog food diet. Results revealed non-significant effect on growth performance of various treatments. Similarly, early renal biomarkers such as symmetric dimethylarginine (SDMA) and cystatin C showed no significant differences (p > 0.05) among the groups, and no ultrasonographic abnormalities were detected. These findings indicate that both vegetarian and non-vegetarian diets are safe and effective for maintaining growth and renal health in adult dogs.
