<p>Despite the cultural and spiritual significance of the Kumbh Mela, millions of pilgrims frequently encounter a variety of negative experiences that remain underexplored in tourism research. This study addresses this gap by examining pilgrims’ challenges and their suggestions for administrative improvement. A survey (n = 835) was conducted and the data were analyzed through both quantitative (e.g., clustering) and qualitative (e.g., thematic) methods. While the quantitative analysis identified eight key problem areas, the qualitative analysis uncovered sixteen negative experiences, seventeen categories of recommendations, and ten overarching administrative themes. These themes encompass issues such as overcrowding, sanitation, accessibility for vulnerable groups, disorientation, transportation, law enforcement support, technological limitations, legal concerns, and communication infrastructure. The study introduces a tripartite graph mapping the associations among experiences, recommendations, and themes and offers a holistic understanding of pilgrim experiences which enables administrators to prioritize actions and enhance the overall experience at large-scale religious events.</p>
