摘要

In the present investigation, diversity of birds was recorded from three different areas viz., Gole Gujral (Site I), Raika (Site II) and Bajalta (Site III) of Jammu District for a period of 5 months (June to October 2022). In total, 30 species of birds belonging to 9 orders with 23 families were identified. Commonly observed species included the Himalayan bulbul, Red-vented bulbul, House crow, Laughing dove, and others. The distribution of species was unequal among all three sites. Maximum numbers of birds were observed in Site II. This is attributed to the fact that Site I and Site III were exposed to increased anthropogenic activities (construction of roads, removal of trees, pollution) compared to Site II. It is necessary to implement avian conservation, protection and management strategies by State Government as well as by the locals in those areas where we observe decrease in the number of birds.
