<p>The present investigation reports the first observation of a bloom of the dinoflagellate <i>Prorocentrum gracile</i> (<i>P. gracile</i>) in the Kochi coastal waters, Southeastern Arabian Sea. The bloom density was enumerated as 1.75 × 10<sup>5</sup> cells L<sup>−1</sup>. Temperature, salinity, and phosphorous may play a major role in influencing the distribution and proliferation of <i>P. gracile</i>. This study establishes a baseline for future studies aimed at elucidating the distribution and ecological consequences of <i>P. gracile</i> blooms.</p>
