<p>The purpose of this work is to establish baseline Length−weight relationships (LWRs) for seven freshwater cypriniformes species from the Tamiraparani River basin in Tamil Nadu, India, in order to inform future ecological evaluations and fisheries management methods. <i>Danio aequipinnatus</i>,<i> Garra mullya</i>,<i> Rasbora daniconius</i>,<i> Dawkinsia filamentosa</i>,<i> Systomus sarana</i>,<i> Puntius dorsalis</i>, and <i>Puntius bimaculatus</i> were among the species studied. LWRs give crucial insights into fish populations’ growth patterns, health status, and habitat conditions, assisting in the development of successful conservation and management strategies. The calculated slope parameters (‘b’) for most species were larger than 3, suggesting positive allometric growth, which occurs when weight develops faster than length. In contrast, <i>Rasbora daniconius</i> had a ‘b’ value of 2.88, indicating negative allometric development, with weight rising at a slower pace than length. The findings provide critical reference data for ecological monitoring and sustainable management of freshwater fish resources in the Tamiraparani River basin and surrounding ecosystems.</p>
