<p>The catfish species <i>Mystus gulio</i> (Hamilton, 1822), commonly known as the long-whiskered catfish, holds significant commercial value in Asian countries due to strong market demand. The species is well-suited for aquaculture in both fresh and brackish water environments, owing to its adaptability as a euryhaline species. This study investigated the effects of the cymothoid isopod <i>Cymothoa indica</i> (Schioedte and Meiert, 1884) on the blood parameters of the wild population of host fish <i>M</i>. <i>gulio</i> from the Bahuda estuary, Southern Odisha, India, during 2023–24. The findings revealed significant reductions (<i>P</i> &lt; 0.05) in red blood cell count, hemoglobin, hematocrit, and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration in infected <i>M</i>. <i>gulio</i> compared to non-infected counterparts, indicating potential respiratory complications. Although no significant differences (<i>P</i> &gt; 0.05) were observed in mean corpuscular hemoglobin, mean corpuscular volume, white blood cell count, lymphocytes, and monocytes, there was a notable increase in eosinophils and neutrophils (<i>P</i> &lt; 0.05) in the infected fishes, suggesting an immune response to parasite-induced inflammation. These results provide the first insights into the impact of <i>C</i>. <i>indica</i> on the hematological parameters of wild host fish <i>M</i>. <i>gulio</i>, which would aid aquaculture industries in managing the health of host fishes affected by parasitic isopods.</p>
