<p>Present study was carried out during <i>Kharif</i> 2021 with an aim to characterize genetic diversity among locally collected germplasm lines employing microsatellite markers. Thirty rice germplasm lines were evaluated in Randomized Complete Block Design in three replications having a plot size of 1.6&#xa0;m<sup>2</sup>.Analysis of variance revealed significant differences among the germplasm lines for all the traits recorded revealing significant variation among the lines. Among the 24 microsatellite markers used for characterizing diversity, 18 were found to be polymorphic and these markers identified a total of 78 alleles ranging from 2 to 7, with an average of 4.33 alleles whereas, PIC values were found to be ranging from 0.18 to 0.77. Further, cluster analysis diversified the germplasm into 5 clusters with coefficient value ranging from 0.18 to 0.70. Principal component analysis revealed that out of total 11 principal components only 5 principal components having eigen value greater than 1 contributed about 87.74 per cent variability. The first two principal components accounted for the cumulative variance more than 50 per cent and hence can be further utilized in understanding the genetic diversity among the germplasm lines. Thus, the study successfully demarcated the germplasm and revealed diverseness among them while, cluster analysis deciphered similarity and dissimilarity among the germplasm for utilization in future breeding programmes.</p>
