A Scientific Report on the Nursery Insect Pests of Eastern Himalayan Poplar (Populus gamblei Dode) from North-East India
摘要
The infestation and biology of nursery insect pests, the Poplar defoliator Clostera fulgurita (Walker, 1865) (Lepidoptera: Notodontidae) and the Common leopard butterfly, Phalanta phalantha (Drury, [1773]) (Lepidoptera: Nymphalidae), of Populus gamblei plants, is reported from North-eastern India in this short communication. This is the first scientific report on the nursery insect pests of P. gamblei plants from North-East India. The C. fulgurita larvae defoliated P. gamblei plants in nurseries during the pre-monsoon (May–June) season and P. phalantha larvae defoliated P. gamblei plants in nurseries in monsoon (July–August) season, causing drying and death of plants. The percentage infestation of P. gamblei nursery plants by C. fulgurita and P. phalantha larvae was 43.70% and 36.33%, respectively. Among the surveyed plants, the frequency of severely infested plants (61–100% damage) was higher for Clostera fulgurita-infested plants in May–June compared to Phalanta phalantha-infested plants in July–August.
