<p>Butterflies, an amalgamation of beauty and functionality, serving as aesthetic wonders, pollinators and vital bioindicators. However, they are also falling prey to the mounting anthropogenic stresses like rampant urbanization. Amidst threats, informal urban greenspaces(IGS) hold value, yet their ecological potential remains underexplored. The study utilized year-long systematic field surveys to document butterfly diversity, their relative visiting frequencies (RVF), seasonal occurrences with potential host plants in a 654.89 sq. m IGS nestled in Barrackpore, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal recording 37 butterfly species spanning 5 distinct families,&#xa0;12 subfamilies and 29 genera.&#xa0;Led by Nymphalidae with 15 species followed by Pieridae(8), Lycaenidae (6), Papilionidae (6) and Hesperiidae(2). Tailed Jay dominated the area(RVF=0.080472) while Peacock Pansy visited the least(RVF=0.000524). The species richness peaked in the Post-monsoon season, succeeded by Pre-monsoon, and was least during Monsoon. Out of the observed species, 7 fall under the purview of Indian Wildlife (Protection) Act,1972. The findings highlight the rich diversity of an IGS which calls for an extensive apprehension and preservation of such habitats for conserving the butterfly taxa and improving the health of the urban ecosystem as a whole. This study has endeavoured to compile a comprehensive list, serving as preliminary data for future references to understand butterfly ecology within similar IGS of this region. These insights can further be incorporated in designing urban greenspaces like parks, butterfly gardens creating hotspots for butterflies.</p>
