Recording of Gregarious Flowering of Phyllostachys nigra var. henonis: Report from Eastern Himalaya, India
摘要
A massive synchronized flowering was observed in a Phyllostachys species from Sikkim and West Bengal. After critical examinations of specimens, it has been identified as Phyllostachys nigra var. henonis. This study provides a brief description of the species supported with field photographs and illustrations. Based on the flowering records in India, the flowering cycle of this species is approximately 100 to 120 years. As this species is known to produce mature seeds rarely, only immature seeds in few spikelets could be observed.
