摘要

Bhavanisagar reservoir, built across the Bhavani river, a major tributary of the river Cauvery is one of the largest reservoirs in India and second largest reservoir in Tamil Nadu. Bhavanisagar dam having an average reservoir size of 3695 ha. As part of a study on checking the occurrences of the fish species along Bhavanisagar reservoir, the first author collected samples of Tor species from the reservoir and investigated to look into what Tor species were present in the drainage after encountering three unexpected Tor specimens. However, there are no prior records of any Tor species in the reservoir. Based on the standard keys and previously published descriptions the Tor species identified as Tor remadevii (Family Cyprinidae) and recored for the first time from the Bhavanisagar reservoir. This species may have been introduced into the drainage accidentally, according to the evidence, but this is uncertain. Morphometric and descriptions of the specimen have been provided here and possibilities for the occurrence is discussed.
