摘要

Rice production in Odisha faces persistent challenges due to low irrigation coverage, erratic rainfall, and agro-ecological diversity, resulting in unstable yields. This study evaluates the adoption dynamics, determinants, and performance of the System of Rice Intensification (SRI) using data from 522 farm households across 13 districts. Farmers were categorized as adopters, dropouts, and non-adopters. Despite declining participation, the area under SRI expanded, indicating perceived benefits. Probit regression identified NGO involvement, training, and agricultural income as key adoption drivers, while irrigation constraints and labour shortages hindered uptake. SRI outperformed conventional methods in yield, profitability, and resource conservation, especially during drought. However, labour displacement and inconsistent compliance remain challenges. Context-specific promotion and institutional support are essential for scaling SRI sustainably.
