Die Rückkehr von pensionierten Lehrpersonen in den Schuldienst als berufsbiographisches Ereignis
摘要
The current study is concerned with the reentry decisions of retired teachers in Austria to return to school. Against the background of little previous research about reentry decisions of retired teachers, thereby macrostructural theories about the teacher shortages in Austrian schools and individual (post)employment decisions to return to school converge. Only a few retired teachers decide to return to school on a paid position. Which experiences they have made during their return is currently not reported. By means of episodic interviews with six returning teachers and three non-returning teachers they narratively account for or against their return to school after retirement. The interviews show the relevance of dropout and reentry in this context: their last year in school, their retirement and first year out, and their first year back. This exploratory study shows that proximity to home, simultaneous employment of the partner and personal contact through the former school favor reentry decisions. Future research should focus on the late stage of teachers’ biographies.
