<p>The new construction project PULS, planned by Vattenfall, is designed as a pumped storage power plant and could be realized in southern Thuringia, in central Germany. The project is currently at the beginning of the planning phase and could be commissioned as early as the mid-2030s. PULS is an acronym for the municipalities/villages of Probstzella, Unterloquitz, Leutenberg, and Schweinbach, which make up the project area. Thanks to favorable topographical conditions, which allow for a height difference of 250 m between the upper and lower basins, the site is ideally suited for a pumped storage power plant (PSP). The facility is designed for a storage volume of at least 4.1 million m³ and an electrical output of up to 500 MW, with an annual energy production of over 838 GWh/a.</p>
