<p>This article explores the use of image-based technologies for monitoring fish migration, particularly through video monitoring systems in fish passage facilities. Video monitoring enables non-invasive, long-term observation and provides valuable data on fish behaviour and species composition. The article presents the contents of the thematic issue of the Journal WasserWirtschaft, issue 11/2025, like minimum requirements as well as limitations, and offers a decision-making guide for potential users and regulatory authorities. Selected case studies illustrate practical implementation and highlight the potential of this technology as a reliable monitoring tool.</p>
