<p>Alperia operates the Glorenza and Castelbello hydropower plants in the upper Venosta Valley. The Glorenza power plant has the annual reservoir at Resia Lake and a compensation reservoir below the discharge channel with a volume of 400 000 m³. The Castelbello power plant, which is located further down the valley, uses the compensation reservoir in Glorenza/Glurns as a daily reservoir and generates a hydropeaking flow through its operation in the Puni and Adige rivers. Operational measures or direct spillways for hydropeaking were deemed disproportionate. It was decided to limit the water return to one body of water. The ecologically more valuable watercourse Puni river was protected by redirecting the discharge to the canalised main watercourse Etsch.</p>
