<p>More than 180 000 l of water-polluting substances were discharged into the reservoir of the Wupper dam during the flood in July 2021 due to the flooding of companies and households upstream the dam. These were primarily hardening oils and other operating materials from metalworking companies. The short-term cleaning of the dam at the time lasted five months and was focussed on the main dam. Today, the Wupperverband is faced with the challenge of cleaning the preliminary dam, which is still heavily polluted.</p>
