<p>In the face of climate change, dam operators are faced with the challenge of ensuring both water supply in dry periods and flood protection. Climatic changes are increasingly making it necessary to re-examine spillways regarding possible failure. In order to be able to estimate the necessary technical requirements as well as the resulting expenses for future plant operation, a step-by-step verification of flood safety was carried out using 3D hydronumerical modeling using the Sosa dam as an example. As a result, the verification process proved to be a suitable method for meeting the climate-related challenges of safe dam operation in the future.</p>
