<p>The effects of climate change require, among other things, a review of existing hydrological parameters regarding the safety of dams. In Central Germany, this became clear once again with the so-called Christmas flood of 2023. As a result of such a review, an expansion of technical flood protection can be a way of countering these effects. This article is dedicated to the topic based on a practical report on the large-scale project “Extension and repair of the flood retarding basin Straussfurt”. </p>
