<p>Alperia operates the Castelbello hydroelectric power plant with the weir in Lasa/Laas, which interrupts the continuum of the Adige river with a barrage around eight metres high. With the renewal of the concession, the realisation of fish passability at the weir in Lasa/Laas was stipulated. As is often the case when retrofitting existing facilities, space availability poses the greatest challenge. For this reason, it was decided to position the fish pass on the same side of the river as the intake and to deviate from the recommendations of the DWA-M 509 code of practice by means of mathematical verification. The vertical slot passage was generously dimensioned with the planning principle of creating not just a corridor between the two sections of water, but a new habitat.</p>
