This article discusses challenges and solutions in ensuring precise, timely, and comprehensive information about dam conditions. The DIN 19 700 categorizes dams, emphasizing safety requirements. The DWA standard M 516 serves as an updated guide for safety reports and in-depth inspections of dams, focusing on fundamental data documentation including geological, hydrological, and seismic information. Inspections entail thorough analysis by inspectors, evaluating documentation, structural integrity, and operational management. Monitoring equipment recommendations, per DWA standard M 514, depend on structural and environmental factors. Measurement results from monitoring programs provide insights for safety reports and risk assessments. Inspectors play a crucial role in identifying hazards and recommending maintenance. The in- depth inspection process involves reviewing documents, identifying safety-critical components, and conducting thorough examinations. Adjusting monitoring programs according to evolving needs is crucial. Future advancements may involve AI for real-time analysis and predictive maintenance, highlighting the need for collaboration and investment in in-depth inspections to maintain dam integrity.
