The Vöckla River is an illustrative case study reflecting the gap between restoration needs and funding restraints. This discrepancy becomes especially apparent when faced with limited data. In such circumstances, it becomes imperative to make judicious use of the existing capacities. Solid assessment frameworks are needed to support stakeholders involved in river restoration, as many projects, often implemented at the reach level, falter in achieving their objectives because they fail to consider the broader watershed context. Therefore, it is essential to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the environmental conditions and human pressures acting on various spatial scales within the catchment of interest before recommending and prioritizing restoration measures. This study introduces a hierarchical approach aimed at prioritizing restoration measures in pre-alpine rivers, thereby providing important contributions to large-scale planning approaches.
