The maintenance of dams and dikes is essentially carried out in accordance with the technical requirements for flood protection systems. This care generally also serves the goals of nature conservation and there are synergies with the need for care for flood protection reasons and ecological concerns. Dam maintenance using technical methods in particular often meets with reservations, although the overall positive effects on nature conservation outweigh the negative effects.
