The change in water supply in German rivers does not only affect the operation of hydropower plants, but also economic locations and urban life. The possibilities of creating a network of regulating structures along the watercourses can contribute to maintaining the infrastructure and improving living conditions during periods of drought and heat. The challenges for the operators of hydropower plants have been elaborated.
