Based on three-dimensional hydrodynamic-numerical simulations of the Watzdorf flood control reservoir it could be determined that damage to the dam structure cannot be excluded in case of extreme flood events. As a result, a plan condition was developed to increase the discharge capacity through constructive optimization of the side spillway. The adapted model was investigated by using three-dimensional hydrodynamic-numerical simulations.
