The history of computer and Artificial Intelligence reaches back to the legendary Chinese emperor Fu Xi. He is said to have reigned in the 3rd millenium BC and to have created the Book of Changes, of the I Ging or Yi Ging, as it is called today. The Yi Jing is an essential part of Chinese philosophy. During the baroque period Europe started to be interested in China. Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz (1646–1716) corresponded with Jesuit fathers who were employed as scientists and teachers at the Chinese imperial court. On the basis of the Hexagram of Fu Xi Leibniz confirmed his theory of Duality, the universal applicability of the numbers 0 and 1, which form the basis of computing science. In 1694 Leibniz constructed the first mechanical calculating machine, the stepped reckoner, a precursor of computer technology. In the course of time more and more complex computers were developed, which have reached with artificial Intelligence a certain autonomy, which raise entirely new problems.
