Modeling of methylene blue adsorption on a superhydrophilic activated carbon-coated melamine sponge using response surface methodology
摘要
This research paper presents an empirical model designed to elucidate the adsorption behavior of methylene blue as an adsorbate on a highly porous melamine sponge coated with activated carbon. In the activated carbon sponge, powdered activated carbon impregnates the melamine sponge with the help of alginate, which imparts super-hydrophilic properties. The study uses Response Surface Methodology to fit a quadratic model to the adsorption capacity, resulting in a well-fitted model with an R2 value of 0.99, signifying high adequacy. The findings show that the p-value corresponding to the model is significantly less than 0.0001, demonstrating the substantial relevance of the models fitted to the data set. Based on the experimental results and the appropriately fitted model, the study records the highest adsorbent capacity at 222.2 mg/g, achieved under specific conditions, including a pH of 4.5, an adsorbent dosage of 0.77 g/l, an initial concentration of 132.6 mg/l, and a temperature of 25.5 °C.
