<p>The study examines the contribution of sustainable livestock production to environmental degradation. The aim is to show that exclusion of livestock production activity in modelling environmental degradation using the Stochastic Impacts by Regression on Population, Affluence, and Technology model biases the environmental elasticity of the human population. In particular, it overestimates the environmental impact of human population by approximately 7%. A simple econometric explanation and empirical estimation of the bias in the estimated elasticity of human population is provided in this study. This study is novel in that it is the first empirical study to account for the livestock production activities in the joint ecological impacts of population, affluence and technology. A broader approach in estimating the impacts of the drivers of environmental degradation is therefore recommended.</p>
