Research progress on application and adsorption performance of chitosan and its derivatives in the field of water treatment
摘要
Chitosan is the only natural alkaline polysaccharide. It can be fabricated from the deacetylation of chitin by alkaline substances. In addition to this, it is non-toxic, alkaline-resistant, heat-resistant, and easily degradable. In this paper, we have briefly introduced chitosan, its treatment mechanism, and its applications for various industrial wastewater. Adsorption isotherms, kinetics, and influencing factors such as pH, adsorbent dosage, and deacetylation degree were also examined. It was discovered that the Langmuir isotherm and pseudo-second-order kinetic equation were mostly followed because of their suitability, and pH has the greatest influence on the adsorption rate. Moreover, the regeneration of chitosan and its derivatives after adsorbing cationic, anionic dye molecules, and heavy metal ions was reviewed, and it was noticed that additional improvement in its regeneration will further advance the applications of chitosan and its derivates. Lastly, adsorption dynamics were discussed, and it was predicted that chitosan as a sludge conditioner will be the future trend in its applications.
