Effects of polyaniline-polyethylene glycol modified with surfactants for Cefazolin removal in aqueous media

Antibiotics such as Cefazolin (CFZ) are widely utilized to treat humans and animals. Today, the increase in the residues of such antibiotics has received particular attention, since they are discharged into water and soil in a non-metabolized form and harm the environment. In this study, a new PolyAniline-polyethylene glycol modified nanocomposite with 1-Hexyl-3-methyl-imidazolium-hexafluorophosphate surfactant was synthesized through chemical polymerization is a new method for the removal of CFZ antibiotic from aqueous media (water), it has shown promising results. The adsorbent demonstrated optimal performance at a contact time of 60 min and a pH rate of 6, with an adsorption capacity of 3 g/L for removing a CFZ concentration of 100 mg/L. The test results on the impact of interfering compounds, such as Chlorine and Nitrate anions, indicated that the removal percentage in water decreased from 96.42 to 72.72%. Furthermore, the outcomes of adsorbent regeneration revealed that the removal percentage of CFZ reduced from 93.99 to 74.08% after six cycles using HNO3 and from 41.25 to 23.27% by using NaOH.
