Advanced developments in carbon nanotube polymer composites for structural applications

Significant advancements in composite and nanocomposite polymers, especially with the integration of carbon nanotubes (CNTs), offer transformative potential for various high-performance applications. This review presents a comprehensive analysis of CNT-reinforced polymer composites, showcasing their superior mechanical properties, such as tensile strength improvements by 80%, enhanced modulus by 250%, and increased thermal stability compared to traditional materials. These materials are pivotal in meeting the stringent demands of aerospace and automotive industries, driving innovation toward lighter, stronger, and more sustainable solutions. Additionally, this review identifies significant research gaps in the current literature, particularly in optimizing the dispersion of CNTs within polymer matrices, addressing cost and scalability challenges, and exploring the long-term environmental impacts and recyclability of CNT composites. These gaps present opportunities for further innovation and development in such rapidly evolving field.
