Purpose of the Review <p>Though allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) is generally treated in the outpatient setting, this disease may also be encountered on hospital wards and in the emergency department. This review provides a summary of ACD for the inpatient dermatologist who may be consulted in such cases.</p> Recent Findings <p>Comprehensive analyses of ACD in the hospital setting are lacking. Only one study analyzing rates of hospitalizations associated with an ICD-10 code for ACD as well as causative allergens exists to date.</p> Summary <p>Adhesives, plants, unspecified causes, and skin contact with drugs are reported to be the most common causes of ACD in the hospitalized population. Inpatient dermatologists should be wary of misdiagnoses associated with contact dermatitis, including cellulitis and stasis dermatitis. Adhesives, antiseptics, sutures, and topical medicaments are the main categories of exposures for the hospitalized population.</p>
