AI in Geriatric Medicine and Serious Illness Care
摘要
This narrative review examines the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in addressing challenges in geriatric and palliative care, including prognostication, diagnostic uncertainty, and managing those with complex conditions. We evaluate recent advances in AI, particularly with machine learning and large language models (LLMs), and review potential applications to improve the quality and efficiency of care for older patients with serious illnesses.
Recent FindingsRecent innovations in LLMs have transformed AI’s capacity to process nuanced, unstructured data. These innovations have the potential to improve dementia diagnosis, assessment of nutritional status, serious illness prognostication, caregiver and patient support, and communication.
SummaryEmerging AI technologies, especially LLMs, offer promising advancements. While challenges persist, aligning AI with principles of holistic, patient-centered care could transform geriatric medicine and palliative care. Geriatric medicine and palliative care medicine clinicians should help shape how these technologies will be used in the future.
