Digital Health Tools for the Screening and Management of Malnutrition Risk in the Older Adults: A Narrative Review
摘要
In this narrative review, we provide an overview of the current understanding of the potential role of technology in supporting older adults and facilitating preventive screening or early intervention strategies to mitigate the risk of malnutrition.
Recent FindingsIn the 30 included studies, digital tools (e.g., EHR-embedded screening, dietary apps, photographic monitoring, telemonitoring, and machine-learning based NLP dashboards) increased malnutrition risk detection and improved aspects of nutritional care in diverse settings. Digital tools and applications for the assessment of malnutrition and the monitoring of nutrient intake have proven effective in increasing awareness of malnutrition risk, helping to reduce the workload of healthcare professionals, and decrease the time healthcare professionals spend assessing nutritional status. Importantly, co-design and user-centred interface adaptations consistently improved acceptability and usability among older adults. Indeed, his narrative review demonstrates that older adults’ involvement is an essential prerequisite for the proper functioning and use of experimental tools.
SummaryTo promote successful ageing, digital tools can effectively support older individuals by facilitating preventive screening or early intervention strategies to mitigate the risk of malnutrition.
